Cardinals' Sonny Gray Credits Odd Ritual for In-Game Improvement in Win vs. White Sox

Cardinals’ Sonny Gray Credits Odd Ritual for In-Game Improvement in Win vs. White Sox

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Sonny Gray improved to 4-1 on the season after throwing seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball with six strikeouts in a 3-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

The 34-year-old Gray continued his torrid start to the season, improving his ERA to a stunning 0.89 through five starts, establishing himself as an early National League Cy Young candidate as the calendar turns to May.

While Gray put together another sterling start, a high-stress third inning caused him to reevaluate things in the dugout. Gray credited an odd in-game ritual for his turnaround and efficiency on the mound throughout the rest of the game.

"I've done this before," Gray told reporters after the game. "I just came in here after the third and took all my clothes off and got redressed with new cleats, socks, underwear, pants, belt, jersey and hat and said, 'You're a new guy, now start over.' So that's kind of how I reset it."

Nothing like a mid-game wardrobe change to get the mind right!

St. Louis improved to 15-17 on the season and sits in fourth place in the NL Central.

Declan Rice Shines as Arsenal Breeze Past Bournemouth in PL Title Race

Declan Rice Shines as Arsenal Breeze Past Bournemouth in PL Title Race

Arsenal secured another crucial three points in the Premier League title race against Bournemouth early this morning thanks to a massive performance by Declan Rice.

The Gunners hosted Bournemouth in the early game on the weekend. Andoni Iraola's team came in looking to play spoiler, but Mikel Arteta's side had other plans. Arsenal was on top of Bournemouth from kick-off with chance after chance. The Cherries did well to keep Arsenal at bay for most of the first half despite facing numerous shots.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring just on the edge of halftime after Mark Travers fouled Kai Havertz in the 18-yard box. After a lengthy VAR check, Saka gave Travers the eyes for his 16th league goal of the season.

Bournemouth had some decent chances in the second half, including a goal disallowed by VAR. Leandro Trossard gave Arsenal some breathing room with a 70th-minute goal assisted by Declan Rice. The midfielder provided the cherry on top in the 97th-minute capping off an impressive performance.

The win puts Arsenal four points clear of Manchester City, though as we know the reigning champions have an extra game in hand. Pep Guardiola's side hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers at 12:30 p.m. ET. Wolves won the reverse fixture 2-1 in September, and did a double over the Cityzens back in the 2019-20 season. Though, fans know just how lethal Manchester City are in the business end of the season.

Goalkeeper David Raya officially won the Premier League Golden Glove keeping the most clean sheets in the league. It seems like forever ago when there was a goalkeeper controversy at the club. Mikel Arteta's faith in the Spanish GK has been repaid after dropping fan-favorite Aaron Ramsdale earlier in the season. Fans were on board after Raya's performance in the Champions League penalty shootout against Porto, but now he's got an award to put in his cabinet.

City aside, Arsenal needs to do its job for the rest of the season. The Gunners have a trip to Old Trafford next weekend and close out the season against Everton at home.

Bayern Munich-Linked Roberto De Zerbi Makes Big Statement About Future

Bayern Munich-Linked Roberto De Zerbi Makes Big Statement About Future

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has distanced himself from reports linking him to the soon-to-be vacant Bayern Munich job by insisting he wants to stay where he is.

The Italian's name has been circulated as Bayern look to replace Thomas Tuchel, who will leave at the end of the season after surrendering the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen.

De Zerbi has also been linked with taking over Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona having drawn praise for his side's elegant yet risky brand of football down on the south coast, and although resulst have dipped in 2024 - with Brighton struggling to balance domestic duties and injuries to key players with their exploits in the Europa League - his stock remains high.

But in an interview with Sky Sports, De Zerbi has revealed he'd like to stay put for now, detailing his affinity to his current employers.

"I would like to stay in Brighton because I love my players, I love this city, I love my club and my fans," he explained. "I said in the meeting with the fans, if I am happy there isn't a club that can bring myself to change team.

"I need to find the balance between my heart and my head. And there is a part of myself who pushes with the heart, and the other is more calm to analyse better the situation."

Brighton have slipped to 12th in the Premier League table after losing four of their last six games, while the only goal they scored in the entire month of March came courtesy of an own goal from Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Nevertheless, a top-half finish can still be achieved as Brighton have games in hand on the teams immediately above them in the standings. They will, however, need to get results against sides who are placed higher in the league - Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester United, managed by the increasingly under pressure Erik ten Hag.

A 16-1 Live Bet Looks Enticing After 36 Holes at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

A 16-1 Live Bet Looks Enticing After 36 Holes at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Thirty-six holes into the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Tour rookie Jake Knapp is at 14 under par and the leader by one shot over Matt Wallace and Troy Merritt.

Bettors looking to cash in this weekend might consider looking past those names, just down the down. Taylor Pendrith, currently three shots behind Knapp and +1600 at DraftKings, is a solid live bet for two reasons:

1. He was in good form leading into to the tournament, which is always a positive indicator. Analyzing his recent performances and considering factors like his driving distance and accuracy, putting stats, and course suitability, Pendrith on paper could have an edge over current contenders.

2. A look at the current leaderboard along with the conditions of the course offer more insight into Pendrith's potential. Specifically, players are going low at TPC Craig Ranch — Merritt shot a 62 on Friday — and Pendrith is well-equipped to keep pace, and perhaps sail right past, the current group of leaders. Knapp is a rookie but also a winner this year. He will likely be Pendrith's biggest obstacle.

At +1600, that's a nice payout if Pendrith hits, making it an attractive proposition for bettors looking for value heading into the final 36 holes of the event.

Kentucky Derby Ticket Prices 2024: How Much Does It Cost to Get In?

Kentucky Derby Ticket Prices 2024: How Much Does It Cost to Get In?

The 2024 Kentucky Derby has finally arrived, and it is a big one. Saturday's race will mark the 150th to take place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. There will undoubtedly be some additional fanfare to celebrate the sesquicentennial race, but you can also expect the usual Derby fare — outrageous outfits, Mint Juleps, and an exciting race.

There will also be the usual assortment of famous and wealthy individuals in attendance. The Derby, among all its other qualities, is a gathering place for many highly successful individuals, from Tom Brady to Jack Harlow. Even the Queen of England attended back in 2007. Whenever the camera pans ove the crowd during the Derby the audience is almost assured to spot someone rich, famous, or both.

Those people don't have any trouble attending the Derby, what with their endless bank accounts and all. But what are ticket prices like for the general population?

Kentucky Derby Ticket Prices 2024

Tickets can be purchased directly from the Kentucky Derby official website.

An Infield General Admission ticket, which gets you in the door, costs $130. This is as basic as basic admission gets for the Derby. You get to go in through the gates to Churchill Downs, receive a program, enjoy what must be an overpriced specialty cocktail, and set up your own lawn chair to watch the Derby itself on the big board.

The next level of GA is listed as an Infield Final Turn General Admission ticket. The price point starts at $275, and it is as advertised. A standing room only ticket that lets you set up shop on the lawn right by the final turn. An exciting place to be, no matter how close the race is, and a fairly reasonable price upgrade compared to the Infield GA ticket.

A higher-level entry price comes in the form of a Frontside Plaza Walkaround ticket, which are already sold out. The starting price listed on the Derby website for such a ticket is $693. Sold as a two-day package for the Kentucky Oaks as well as the Derby, it's advertised as enjoying "a reimagined view of the Paddock with standing room access and frontside amenities." Regardless, that's a pretty penny, to be sure.

After that is when the real money starts rolling. The hospitality suites are all very expensive; the Silks Balcony & Loge, for example, charges $3,650 for entry. The Turf Club Balcony & Terrace costs $3,525 to get in. There are some more semi-reasonable options, such as the Champions Balcony & Loge ($1,775) or the Plaza Balcony & Loge ($1,775).

The nicest listed options appear to be the Woodford Reserve Paddock Club & Enclosure and the Spires Terrace & Suites. Neither has a price listed; interested parties must contact the Derby. As with many sporting events, the "cheap" options aren't very cheap and the nicest options can run up to thousands of dollars.

That's just about all you need to know about how much it costs to attend the Kentucky Derby in 2024. Enjoy!

Inter Miami vs New York Red Bulls: Preview, How to Watch on TV and Prediction

Inter Miami vs New York Red Bulls: Preview, How to Watch on TV and Prediction

All eyes will be on Chase Stadium this Saturday night when Inter Miami host New York Red Bulls in an MLS clash between two in-form sides.

The Herons have overcome their Concacaf Champions Cup disappointment to beat Sporting Kansas City, Nashville SC and New England Revolution in their last three MLS outings, propelling them to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

Good form has also followed New York Red Bulls this season, who sit third in the Eastern Conference and just four points behind Miami having played a game less.

Sandro Schwarz's team are on a three-game winless streak though, following draws against Chicago Fire, LAFC and Vancouver Whitecaps.

Here's everything you need to know about the game.

Where to watch Inter Miami vs New York Red Bulls

  • United States (Apple TV - MLS Season Pass)
  • Canada (Apple TV - MLS Season Pass)
  • United Kingdom (Apple TV - MLS Season Pass)

Inter Miami team news

Jordi Alba has a hamstring injury and that means his starting spot at left-back should go to Franco Negri.

Serhiy Kryvstov is also ruled out with the same problem, while Miami fans will have to wait a little longer for Federico Redondo to return from a knee injury.

The good news is that Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are fit and ready to go - a frightening prospect for any defense around the world.

Inter Miami predicted lineup: Callender; Weigandt, Aviles, Freire, Negri; Gressel, Busquets, Ruiz; Messi, Suarez, Taylor.

New York Red Bulls team news

Noah Elle is suspended for Red Bulls after he was sent off last time out against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Injuries rule Peter Stroud and Serge Ngoma out of contention too, but NYRB have their own star player to look to for inspiration - former Bundesliga star Emil Forsberg, who joined the club in December on a two-year contract with an option for a further 12 months.

New York Red Bulls predicted lineup: Coronel; Dylan Nealis, Sean Nealis, Reyes, Tolkin; Carmona, Edelman, Amaya, Forsberg; Morgan, Vanzeir.

Inter Miami vs New York Red Bulls prediction

One thing's for sure, goals can be expected at Chase Stadium.

Inter Miami have scored plenty of them with Messi in the team, and there's been no slowing down former Barcelona teammate Suarez in front of net. The Herons have seen 42 goals fly in over the course of the 11 MLS games they've played - conceding has also been a frequent occurance too.

It might not be so easy against a NYRB side who have kept things a little tighter, but the opportunity to hit Miami on the counter could see the game open up pretty quickly. The home team have the quality to win but may come unstuck against a side very difficult to beat.

Prediction: Inter Miami 2-2 New York Red Bulls

Erik ten Hag Explains Why Man Utd Have Been So Inconsistent

Erik ten Hag Explains Why Man Utd Have Been So Inconsistent

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admits his side are not playing the style of football he'd like, and has attributed their struggles to the extraordinary amount of injuries to players in key positions.

The mood at Old Trafford was lifted by a successful first season for Ten Hag, which saw the Red Devils end a six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup. They also reached the FA Cup final, losing narrowly to neighbourhood rivals Manchester City, and qualified for the Champions League thanks to a third-place Premier League finish.

But United haven't been able to kick on this season, despite spending a decent chunk of money on new signings, and Ten Hag's position as manager has repeatedly been called into question.

There is hope that INEOS' investment into the club will improve United's off the field activity, though it's not yet clear whether Ten Hag will be the manager backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe to take the club forward.

Judging by Ten Hag's latest comments, in an interview with Sky Sports, he appears confident that he'll be in charge next year, and calmly explained why he thinks United's struggles can be attributed to factors out of his control.

"Frustration [at the style of play not working] is not the right word because I'm a realistic man," he said. "Last year when I came in, you make your adjustments but at the end of the day, it's about winning games. From last year, we found a way to make a very successful team.

"This year, we wanted to make the next step. We bought in a goalkeeper who can play out from the back, a dynamic midfielder in Mason Mount - who has been injured all season - and a goalscorer in Hojlund who is young and needed the time.

"On one hand, we were quite confident we made the right choices and we can make the next step. But all the injuries are coming and we made so many changes in some positions like the back four.

"We've now played 47 games and we had 30 combinations in the back four. They weren't from choices you make, they were forced choices because the players were injured… anyone with even a little bit of knowledge about football, they will know it will have a huge impact.

"Then Casemiro was injured for a long period. We had so many issues in the team that you can't always play the way you want to play.

"But the fans want to see a successful team, a team that's winning. What we always try to do, and it's a compliment to the team, in every game, they went for it and they had a spirit.

"We make the adjustments a little bit in our way of play because when you don't have a left-footed centre back or on the left side in the full-back position, you have to make adjustments you want to play, so we did.

"We are not where we want to be with the way we want to play, but the headlines are still there because we want to be proactive, be dynamic and we want to play with a high line. That's what we always aim for."

United will not feature in next season's Champions League, with a fifth-place finish the best they can now achieve, but will again appear in the FA Cup final against Manchester City after narrowly seeing off Championship side Coventry City in a thrilling semi-final penalty shootout.

16-Year-Old Kris Kim Makes PGA Tour History by Making Cut at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

16-year-old golfer Kris Kim is going to have to cancel his weekend plans.

In his PGA Tour debut, Kim shot a four-under 67 on Friday at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson to push his two-day total to seven-under 135, making the cut by one stroke. He'll be playing on Saturday and Sunday at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

Kim now is the fifth-youngest player in PGA Tour history to make a tournament cut, and the youngest since 16-year-old Kyle Suppa made the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2015.

Kim, the son of former LPGA Tour player Ji-Hyun Suh, made five birdies and an eagle Thursday to shoot a three-under-par 69 to start the tournament.

He'll be chasing the tournament's front-runner Jake Knapp, who enters the weekend wiith the lead after shooting a 14-under 128 across Thursday and Friday.

How Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso Fared in WNBA Preseason Debut With Sky

How Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso Fared in WNBA Preseason Debut With Sky

Former collegiate basketball stars Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso made their long-awaited WNBA preseason debuts Friday night during the Chicago Sky's exhibition against the Minnesota Lynx at Target Center.

Reese, who became a household name while leading LSU to a national championship in 2023, joined the Sky's starting five on Friday alongside Elizabeth Williams, Diamond DeShields, Marina Mabrey and Dana Evans. Cardoso, the reigning national champion out of South Carolina, came off the Sky's bench.

In 24 minutes, Reese scored 13 points on 2-of-7 shooting and tallied nine rebounds, two steals and one block.

Cardoso's night ended early, however, after she went down hard on her right shoulder in the first half. She didn't play at all in the second half, registering just six points on 3-of-5 shooting, four rebounds and two blocks in 13 minutes.

The Lynx edged the Sky, 92–87, behind 17 points from guard Courtney Williams.

The two rookie phenoms connected on a bucket in the second quarter when Reese dished Cardoso a pass in the paint, and the former Gamecocks star rolled it in for two points.

The Sky selected both players in the first round of the 2024 WNBA draft last month. Cardoso was the No. 3 pick after the Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark with the top pick and Cameron Brink went to the Los Angeles Sparks at No. 2. Chicago selected Reese at No. 7, a pick the Sky acquired in a trade with the Lynx in April.

Chicago will wrap up the preseason Tuesday against the New York Liberty before officially beginning the 2024 regular season May 15.

Padres to Acquire Luis Arráez in Trade With Marlins, per Report

Padres to Acquire Luis Arráez in Trade With Marlins, per Report

Luis Arráez is on the move again.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Friday that the Miami Marlins are expected to trade Arráez to the San Diego Padres in exchange for three prospects and a relief pitcher. According to Marlins insider Craig Mish, San Diego will send outfield prospects Dillon Head and Jakob Marsee, first baseman Nathan Martorella and relief pitcher Woo-Suk Go to Miami in the deal.

The trade is not yet official.

Arráez, who won the AL batting title in 2022, was traded by the Minnesota Twins to Miami in January of 2023. The two-time All-Star infielder won the '23 NL batting title with the Marlins, hitting .354 in 147 games.

In 33 games this season, Arráez is hitting .299/.347/.372 with eight doubles and one triple.

Arráez plays primarily at second base but also can play at first base, third base and the corner outfield. He joins a Padres team that entered Friday night's slate 16–18 and in second place in the NL West.
