Keith Hernandez Flubs Simple Addition, Leaves Mets Broadcasting Booth in Hysterics

Keith Hernandez Flubs Simple Addition, Leaves Mets Broadcasting Booth in Hysterics

If you take a trip over to former first baseman Keith Hernandez's Baseball Reference page, you'll find a litany of National League-leading numbers—a .344 batting average in 1979, a .408 on-base percentage in 1980, 94 walks in 1986.

Just please—for the love of God—do not ask the man himself to add or subtract them.

Hernandez's hilariously bad attempt at doing simple math Saturday left the New York Mets' broadcast booth laughing during their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. As SNY returned from a commercial break in the bottom of the first, the network showed a man in Hernandez's No. 17 jersey and a man in Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter's No. 8 jersey.

"Carter and Hernandez, two guys who had C's on their chest," play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen noted.

"That's right. That adds up to 15, doesn't it?" Hernandez asked.

"What?" his co-announcers asked.

"17 and 8," Hernandez replied.

"That's 25," Cohen told him as all three announcers busted up laughing.

Unless you're somebody like Moe Berg, there's a reason baseball players are baseball players and mathematicians are mathematicians.

Draymond Green, Joel Embiid Make Bizarre Appearances on Champions League Pregame Show

Draymond Green, Joel Embiid Make Bizarre Appearances on Champions League Pregame Show

In one of the more bizarre crossovers in recent sports history, NBA stars Draymond Green and Joel Embiid were invited as guests on CBS Sports’ Champions League pregame show on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the Champions League final in Wembley between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid joined the CBS Sports’ soccer crew of Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry, Kate Abdo and Micah Richards to discuss the highly anticipated matchup.

Embiid and the crew got into a comical discussion about height, which led the 7’0’’ Philly big to stand up from his chair and tower over his fellow hosts. In response, Carragher climbed onto Richards’s shoulders to try to create a taller figure than Embiid.

What could be stranger than that sequence? Seeing Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green and his son hop on the set.

Green has served as a recurring panelist on TNT’s Inside the NBA after the Golden State Warriors were eliminated from postseason contention, and his public criticism of certain players has not been without consequence. The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly shunned the Inside the NBA crew following their Game 4 win over the Dallas Mavericks due to Green’s "derisive" comments on Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns.

In Saturday’s Champions League final, Real Madrid are seeking their record-extending 15th trophy. Borussia Dortmund haven’t won the Champions League since the 1996-97 season and are widely considered the underdogs to Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Sky’s Chennedy Carter Committed a Hard Off-Ball Foul on Caitlin Clark, and Fans are Heated

Sky’s Chennedy Carter Committed a Hard Off-Ball Foul on Caitlin Clark, and Fans are Heated

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was on the receiving end of a hard off-ball foul late in the third quarter of Saturday’s matchup against the Chicago Sky.

On a Fever inbounding play, the Sky’s Chennedy Carter bumped Clark to the floor and was assessed a common away-from-play foul, not a flagrant foul.

Clark appeared shaken up after the play, and when the quarter ended, she appealed to the refs for a harsher punishment for Carter. In an interview after the third quarter, Clark called Carter’s foul “not a basketball play.”

In the Fever’s loss to the Seattle Storm on Thursday, Clark had complained about the level of physicality in the league.

“I feel like I’m getting hammered,” Clark said.

WNBA fans weighed in on the hard foul:

Despite Carter's foul, the Fever clinched its first home win of the season, beating the Sky 71–70. Clark finished with 11.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists, shooting 4-of-11 from the field and 2-of-9 from three.

In a postgame press conference, Carter refused to comment on her altercation with Clark.

“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” Carter told reporters.

Angel Reese Strutting Through Locker Room Before Sky-Fever Game Became an Instant Icon

Angel Reese Strutting Through Locker Room Before Sky-Fever Game Became an Instant Icon

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese made her case for being the most relatable player in the WNBA after dazzling in her pregame walkout ahead of the Sky’s matchup against the Indiana Fever on Saturday.

Reese, set to face off against collegiate rival Caitlin Clark for the first time in the big leagues, dropped a hilarious one-liner as she enlisted the help of a cameraperson while posing for pregame pictures.

“Can somebody hold my phone?” Reese asked.

Later on, Reese candidly tells someone filming her, “Let me get these shoes off. A baddie can’t stay too bad too long.”

Reese, the No. 7 pick in the WNBA draft, has averaged 11.0 points and 8.2 rebounds in six games this season, shooting 37.3% from the field. The former LSU standout lost to Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, 94–87, in an Elite Eight tilt in this year’s NCAA tournament.

Chicago is off to a 3–3 start this season with Kamilla Cardoso set to make her WNBA debut on Saturday. The Sky are currently tied 31-31 with the Fever in the second quarter.

White Sox Announcer Gets Roasted for Laughably Optimistic Statement About Team’s Form

White Sox Announcer Gets Roasted for Laughably Optimistic Statement About Team’s Form

The MLB-worst Chicago White Sox just suffered their ninth-straight loss in Friday’s 12–5 defeat against the Milwaukee Brewers. One Sox broadcaster, however, is keeping his head up.

NBC Sports Chicago play-by-play announcer John Schriffen, who replaced Jason Benetti in January, turned into the butt of jokes on social media when he made an optimistic statement about the team that arguably bordered on a state of denial.

During Friday’s game, Schriffen told booth mate Steve Stone, “It feels like this run the White Sox are on, we’re catching teams at the wrong time.”

A pause was drawn out before Stone replied, chuckling, “Well, there’s that. There’s a few other reasons. But that’s certainly one of them.”

The White Sox fell to 15-43 following their loss to Milwaukee having dropped 13 of their last 14 games. Schriffen seemingly tried to chalk up their abysmal form to scheduling woes, though one could argue that if that’s the case, the White Sox’s entire MLB schedule is doing them in.

Chicago owns a league-worst -134 run differential and went 6–24 in the months of March and April and 9–19 in May, their worst start in franchise history.

Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) roasted Schriffen for his fanciful theories.

Stars’ Pete DeBoer Had NSFW Message for Team Reporter After Game 5 Loss to Oilers

Stars’ Pete DeBoer Had NSFW Message for Team Reporter After Game 5 Loss to Oilers

The Dallas Stars’ quest for the Stanley Cup lost some steam on Friday night after a gutting 3–1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.

The Stars’ disappointing performance at American Airlines Center drew plenty of questions for coach Pete DeBoer in the postgame conference, including one from The Dallas Morning News’ Tim Cowlishaw that elicited quite the heated response.

“As much as you’re praising the Oilers, did you not think it was kind of a lifeless second period for your team?” Cowlishaw asked. “After falling behind and just kind of putting no pressure on them at all …”

DeBoer voiced his irritation at the question and adamantly defended his team’s character.

“Listen, there’s always things you can do better,” DeBoer said. “You know, you can sit here and question our character if you want. You haven’t been around all year. I haven’t seen you here all year … So, you know what, I’m not gonna do it. You go ahead and write whatever the f--- you want.”

The Oilers were able to extend their lead in the second period of Game 5 thanks to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’s strike during a power play and defenseman Philip Broberg’s sniper shot four minutes later.

The Stars, lacking sustained offensive pressure early in the game, answered with a late consolation goal but ultimately ate their third loss of the series, a monumental setback in their bid for a second Stanley Cup.

Down 3-2 in the series and on the brink of elimination, the Stars will travel to Edmonton for Game 6 on Sunday.

Travis Kelce Gave the Perfect Speech to America During Chiefs’ White House Visit

Travis Kelce Gave the Perfect Speech to America During Chiefs’ White House Visit

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has long been a man of the people, from his zealous “fight for your right” post-AFC title win quote to his act of shotgunning a beer at a faux Cincinnati graduation ceremony.

The three-time Super Bowl champ further cemented his reputation as one of the country’s most lovable celebrities and was full of jokes during the Chiefs’ second consecutive White House visit on Friday. While it’s customary for the reigning Super Bowl winners to be honored at the White House, it’s nearly unheard of for an NFL player to take the podium and give an individual speech to the audience during the ceremony.

One year after Kelce hilariously tried to take over the mic at last summer’s White House ceremony, the Chiefs tight end was welcomed by President Joe Biden himself to say a few words.

“Travis, come here,” President Biden said. “It’s all you, pal.”

“My fellow Americans,” Kelce said, “it’s nice to see you all yet again. I’m not gonna lie, President Biden, they told me if I came up here I’d get tased so I’m going to go back to my spot, alright?”

The celebrations took a somber turn later in the ceremony, when Biden brought up the deadly shooting at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade in February.

“But then, [as] Kansas City was celebrating your incredible win, we saw pride give way to tragedy,” Biden said. “Amid the chaos this team stepped up … This team is exceptional. As a country, we have to do more to stop the tragic shootings before they happen.”

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who made controversial comments in a college commencement ceremony on May 16, was among the players in attendance on Friday.

The Chiefs have won three Lombardi Trophies in the last five years and are seeking a historic three-peat this season.

At 8-1 Odds, This Canadian Is Enticing Live Bet After 36 Holes at Canadian Open

At 8-1 Odds, This Canadian Is Enticing Live Bet After 36 Holes at Canadian Open

Halfway through the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, Ryan Fox and Robert MacIntyre share the lead at 10 under par, and Joel Dahmen is two shots back. And next on the board, a solid value—with the home crowd behind him—looks enticing for those looking to make a live bet 36 holes into this event.

Canadian Mackenzie Hughes appears compelling at +800 on DraftKings. He is fresh off a second-round 64, where everything came together—a combination of skill, national pride and recent form. He's a solid putter on Tour, and he boasts a remarkable +3.83 Strokes Gained on the greens thus far this week. Beware the hot putter.

And of course as a Canadian native, Hughes carries the hopes of the home crowd, which often serves as a motivating factor. Last year fellow Canadian Nick Taylor rode the wave from the fans to win the event and end Canada's six-decade drought.

It's also worth noting that Hughes finished T6 at the Wells Fargo Championship a few weeks ago, so he's been a recent contender. He currently finds himself three strokes off the lead, and he's our favorite value currently on the board for those looking to cash in this week.

Marvel Rivals Gets Two New Characters Ahead of Closed Beta

Marvel Rivals Gets Two New Characters Ahead of Closed Beta

Marvel Rivals is coming to PlayStation 5 with an exclusive Spider-Man skin for the console. But that wasn't all we learned during the game's State of Play trailer. There are already new characters being added to the roster ahead of the game's launch.

During the latest Marvel Rivals trailer, we were shown two new characters coming to the hero shooter. Venom and Guardians of the Galaxy's Adam Warlock are being added to the starting roster.

Venom could be seen swinging around the map as well as traversing underground. It appears as though Venom can damage opponents if he runs into them while burrowing beneath the map's surface.

Adam Warlock seems to be more focused on teamwork rather than aggressive damage. In the trailer, he seems to power up an opponent as one of his abilities, calling out "stronger together" at the same time. He also has some projectile attacks that make him a menace from afar.

The trailer also gave a closer look at how team up abilities will work. Over on the official PlayStation Blog, Game Producer Stephen Wu explained that team up abilities are inspired by "the bonds and friendships" from comic lore.

"When up against overwhelming enemies, even Venom and the Spider-Totems can set aside their differences to morph into a united Venomized force, piercing through the battlefield with dark, lethal spikes!" Wu wrote.

Marvel team up Marvel team up

Interestingly enough, Adam Warlock was mentioned in the massive Marvel Rivals roster leak earlier this month. This gives a bit more legitimacy to this big leak, meaning we could get Captain America, Squirrel Girl, Thor, and Jeff the Landshark after all. It should be noted, however, that Venom was not included in the leak.

Disney Lorcana Packs Accidentally Have Promos (Again)

Disney Lorcana Packs Accidentally Have Promos (Again)

Disney Lorcana has become a massive hit with collectors, from avid fans who want every Mickey Mouse card there is to pack opening addicts who hope to hit big. The trading card game is irresistible thanks to its stunning card art featuring iconic Disney characters. Now, packs might have something even more surprising.

Once again, it looks like the Disney Lorcana packing center has messed up and put some promo cards in its packs. This has created an even bigger incentive for collectors to rush to card shops and grab all of the Ursula's Return packs they can get their hands on.

The surprising pull was shared on Twitter, showing a lucky Lorcana player holding Ursula — Sea Witch Queen. But it's not just any version of Ursula — Sea Witch Queen, it's the Championship Promo Set 1 version! Released on May 17 along with the rest of Ursula's Return, this promo is rare and hard to get because it's not usually found in packs!

Promo cards are not supposed to be found inside packs. Instead, promo cards are meant to be given sparingly to players that participate in local hobby shop's tournaments as well as larger competitions. They have also been given out at special events like conventions and conferences.

The scarcity of promo cards has made them quite valuable to collectors. Especially this early on in the game, you won't find these promos too easily. Pulling one from a pack is quite shocking and definitely lucky.

However, this isn't the first time it's happened. According to Lorcana News, this happened a few sets back when collectors started pulling the Stitch — Rockstar with promo art in packs. Woops!

For now, Ravensburger hasn't commented on the mistake and it's unclear just how many promo arts of this card are in the Ursula's Return packs.
